JOB DESCRIPTION

Under general direction of the Traffic Control Manager, the Traffic Control Attendant performs the labor associated with establishing construction work zones, lane/road closures, installing roadside safety devices, barricade set-ups, and assisting vendors with asphalt/concrete restorations or traffic control needs. This person is responsible for ensuring that plans are followed correctly; work is completed accurately and on-time; employees are following safety regulations; and that the customer is satisfied with the overall work product.

The Traffic Control Attendant will be required to hold and maintain an OSHA 10 Certification.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Ability to walk long distances
  • Practices effective communication (verbal, listening, written) and maintains constant communication with work crew
  • Possesses strong organization, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrates commitment to high professional ethical standards
  • Possesses strong problem solving skills
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license, medical DOT certification and excellent driving record at all time; class A CDL driver's license is a plus
  • Ability to read and write clearly including maps and road signs
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including nights, and weekends
  • Basic computer skills required
  • ATSSA Certification preferred

Duties

The duties of this position are listed below. These duties help define clearer expectations for this position.

  • Lifts, carries, loads, and unloads traffic control items, including signs, barricades, traffic cones, pavement marking materials, etc.
  • Sets up and removes barricades, traffic cones, signs and traffic control items at job site
  • Cleans, maintains and prepares traffic control sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Operates company trucks to transport materials and equipment to and from job site
  • Repairs barricade and traffic control equipment, assembles signs and performs all other shop work necessary to prepare for onsite traffic control
  • Reads and interprets plans and specifications and implements them in the field
  • Designs temporary traffic control for various situations and recognizes, analyzes and corrects deficiencies
  • Flags operations
  • Designs and implements temporary traffic control plans in the field to make the project safe as possible for the crews, motorists and pedestrians for all construction work zones
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle/equipment inspections
  • Maintains constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of the crews and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment.
  • Wears required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hat, eye protection, reflective vest, gloves and composite-toed boots

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

High level of stamina to drive constant physical effort, including standing on cement and various surfaces for extended periods of time, possibly as much as 8-12 hours per day

Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and environments with exposure to dust, dirt and loud noises
