Job Description

The Technician is expected to provide professional installations services in the field for the installation of copper, coax and fiber optic information transport systems. This position is responsible for the physical installation of these systems for BPG and its clients.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required

Minimum of 2 years in the installation of Information transport systems, including inside and outside plant premise cabling for copper, coax and fiber optic infrastructures

Knowledge of installation methods, terminating, testing and documenting copper, coax and optical fiber infrastructures required

Must be able to accurately read client scope of work documents and field installation blue prints

Must be able to operate and train employees in the use of level 4 hand held testing equipment, fiber optic testing equipment (power meter and OTDR) and optical fiber fusion splice machines as needed

Electrical experience a plus

Proficient computer/software skills for Microsoft Office products a plus

Must have strong attention to detail and perform duties accurately

Must be able to work independently to accomplish tasks and goals within deadlines

Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to effectively interact with all levels within BPG and its subsidiaries

Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work overtime to complete projects, especially when important deadlines need to be met

Duties

The main duties of this position are listed below. These define clearer expectations for this position. These include, but are not limited to:

This is a working position at BPG and requires the Technician to participate in the physical installation of the infrastructure.

This position may require interfacing with BPG clients and partners daily. A professional look and attitude is required always.

Attend and participate in project turnover meetings as required.

Must have with you and utilize the required and provided PPE gear for the tasks being performed.

When needed, you may act as the company's POC (point of contact) in the field for customer change requests and report them to your Project Manager.

Responsible for providing your Project Manager required field updates when no Foreman is assigned.

Responsible for ensuring all the required project materials, tools, and test equipment are on site and available for the installation when no Foreman is assigned.

Notify your Project Manager immediately if any materials are missing.

Inventory all materials shipped directly to the job site when no Foreman is assigned. Notify your Project Manager immediately if any shipped materials are missing.

Assist with training and guiding Installers while promoting a positive attitude and the company's core values.

Report any major field issues and/or project delays to your Project Manager.

Responsible for the installation quality control of assigned projects.

Responsible for submitting all required internal and external field documents to your Project Manager.

The position requires a team spirit at all times and requires the technician to act in different field capacities at times to achieve the overall installation and goals of a project.

Attend all required client meetings.

Attend and participate in all required BPG staff meetings and events.

Responsible for your own transportation to and from job sites. Carpooling is not allowed unless authorized by your Project Manager.

Input all work hours into HCSS if assigned a tablet, as well as hours of those who do not have tablets assigned to them. If not assigned a tablet, you are responsible for informing office of daily hours worked.

Responsible for continuing your education with related certifications.

  • This position involves work at a construction site where duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors.
  • Work requires moderate to heavy physical and manual skills, such as the use of hand operated power tools, construction equipment and Company vehicles.
  • Work requires close mental and visual concentration, hand/eye coordination and dexterity often in hazardous or adverse conditions for sustained periods.
  • Work can require working in confined spaces, often exposing the employee to hazardous situations.
  • Extended hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other business machines.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
